Our machines are critical to the success of our operation. Under general supervision, Maintenance Technicians will perform services and repairs to ensure reliability of equipment and improve the overall equipment effectiveness of all machines within the manufacturing facility. This includes possessing the following skill sets: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, fabrication, carpentry, painting, plastering, janitorial, HVAC, ammonia, machine & vehicle servicing. This individual will also need to work safely and cohesively to support, sustain, and improve the manufacturing facility, the building, and the grounds. Troubleshooting and thoughtfully moving through observational data is foundational for this position at Oberweis Dairy. Documenting procedures, and following written standard operating procedures is a surefire way to be successful in this role.

This position oversees all retail store construction projects, maintenance activities, and facility upkeep, ensuring buildings remain compliant with food safety regulations, operational needs, and are in optimal condition for food production, ensuring brand consistency and optimal customer experience through strategic space planning and visual merchandising.

Salary: $85k- $105k annually

Key Responsibilities:

Construction Project Management:

  • Plan, manage, and execute construction projects including renovations, expansions, and new facility builds, adhering to food safety regulations and building codes.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and specifications, and oversee contractor bidding and selection processes.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure timely completion within budget.

Facilities Maintenance:

  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for all facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration equipment, and building infrastructure.
  • Identify cost savings for vendors

Compliance Management:

  • Stay updated on all applicable food safety regulations (FDA, FSMA) and ensure facility operations adhere to these standards.

Budgeting and Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage facility maintenance budgets, tracking expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and contractors to ensure competitive pricing.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with operations management to understand facility needs and coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on complex repairs and upgrades.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external contractors regarding project updates and issues.

Concept Development:

  • Collaborate with the design team to develop store concepts that align with the brand identity, considering customer flow, product display, and overall aesthetic.

Site Selection:

  • Participate in identifying potential locations for new stores, evaluating factors like demographics, traffic patterns, and competition.

Design Management:

  • Oversee the design process, including floor plans, fixture layouts, lighting, signage, and visual merchandising elements.

Vendor Management:

  • Source and negotiate with vendors for fixtures, signage, construction materials, and other necessary elements.

Brand Consistency:

  • Ensure all new stores adhere to the brand guidelines in terms of design, visual merchandising, and customer experience.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise: Understanding of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical), food processing equipment, and construction practices.
  • Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with construction processes, permitting requirements, and contractor management.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding of FDA regulations and food safety best practices.
  • Design Expertise: Strong understanding of design principles, visual merchandising, and retail space planning.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven ability to plan, execute, and monitor construction projects within budget and timelines.
  • Maintenance Management: Experience with preventative maintenance programs and facility upkeep.
  • Communication and Leadership Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with diverse teams, including contractors, operations staff, and management.
  • Analytical Skills: Data-driven approach to evaluating store performance and identifying areas for optimization.

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Visual Acuity to identify potential maintenance issues by visually inspecting building systems and components, reading blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Depending on the facility, employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions if working outdoors or in areas with temperature fluctuations.
  • Proper safety gear like gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots should be worn when necessary.
  • Walking and standing for long periods.
  • Regularly climbing stairs and ladders to access different levels of a building.
  • Lifting and carrying moderate weight items like tools or supplies.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
